About FAI

FAI AutoParts is a UK supplier specialising in engine-internal components, timing systems and water pumps. The catalogue covers the European, Japanese and Korean car parc with particular emphasis on the high-failure-rate components: timing chain kits (chain, tensioner, guide rails), timing belt kits (belt, tensioner, idler), water pumps, head bolts, valves, valve stem seals, valve guides and oil pumps.

What FAI does well

Timing systems are the area where FAI is most useful as a brand. A timing chain failure on a 1.4 TSI or a 1.2 PureTech can write off an engine in seconds, and the failure usually traces back to a tensioner or guide rail that's worn — not the chain itself. FAI's timing kits include all the matched components: chain, tensioner, two or three guide rails, sprockets where the OE design includes them, and the bolts. Buying the kit instead of just the chain catches the failure mode that's actually killing the engine.

The water pump range is similarly broad and covers most of the engines where the pump is integrated with the timing system (so it should be replaced at the same time anyway).

When to choose FAI

For full timing chain or belt jobs on European and Japanese engines — FAI is one of the more comprehensive aftermarket kit suppliers and the per-job cost is meaningfully lower than the OE-specific brand (INA, Gates) for many applications. For OE-critical applications (premium German engines with documented OE part numbers), the OE-specific brand may be preferable. For other engines where the OE part is hard to source, FAI fills the gap.
