About Apec (Black range)
Apec is a UK brake specialist founded in 1972 in Coventry, with a focus solely on braking systems β pads, discs, callipers, sensors, hoses, fluid. The brand is split into three colour-coded ranges that cover different segments of the UK market; Black is the standard everyday range, covering most UK vehicles with OE-equivalent quality at honest prices.
What's in the Black range
The Apec Black pad range uses semi-metallic compounds tuned for typical UK driving β predictable initial bite, low noise, moderate dust output. The discs are made from cast iron blended for resistance to thermal cracking and warping; the standard range covers solid discs (rear discs on most vehicles), vented discs (front discs on most modern cars) and the larger drilled/grooved patterns where the OE used them.
Beyond pads and discs, Apec covers brake callipers (remanufactured to OE specification with new seals and dust boots), brake fluid, ABS sensors and copper-asbestos-free brake hoses. For most UK service-and-repair work, the Apec Black range covers the whole brake system from a single supplier.
When to choose Apec Black
For standard brake replacement on a daily-driven car β Apec Black hits the sweet spot of OE-equivalent quality without paying main-dealer prices. The pads behave like the original, the discs don't warp under normal use, the fit is right first time.
For performance applications (M, AMG, RS variants) β consider the Apec Blue or Red ranges, or a brake specialist (Brembo, Mintex). For luxury/premium vehicles where you want OE β Brembo or Textar may be a better fit. For everything else, Apec Black is one of the strongest UK choices.
